Functional skills standards

Last updated on: 08/04/2008

The document details the functional skills standards that define and differentiate the skills required for a learner to reach a level of a functional proficiency in English, mathematics and ICT. While the standards are intended for qualification experts within awarding bodies, a wider audience can interpret or ‘map’ them to predict what minimum requirements are likely to be at specific skill levels. For this reason, they are of interest to stakeholders beyond awarding bodies.

This document was published by the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA). The regulatory function of QCA is now the responsibility of the Office of the Qualifications and Examinations Regulator (Ofqual). Ofqual regulates qualifications and monitors national curriculum assessments in England.
